Studio Skate Market
Pop-Up Retail, New York, 2023
Managed by Scott Avenue Associates, a division of hospitality group Happier, the warehouse venue at 99 Scott Avenue has become known for a string of cool establishments that appeal to a savvy urban demographic, including Studio Skate, an ice skating rink which comes with many extras, such as a DJ, special gigs, a bar and a pizza parlour. For a second year, the venue sees a temporary retail extension emerge for the holiday season in the form of Studio Skate Market, a holiday market spin-off, offering a variety of wares from a number of tightly curated cool brands and stores.
The pop-up venue, designed by Milan-based multidisciplinary creative agency (ab)Normal, sees individual booths embedded in a playful yet slightly raw setting. Entirely dipped in a striking purple hue, captured by drywall partitions and fluffy carpeting, Studio Skate Market offers an adventurous labyrinth where in-the-know shoppers not only discover something new at every turn, but also experience the venue’s different spatial angles along the way. The brand list is concise, but includes forward brands and retailers, such as Dolores, 111SKIN, Wales Bonner, Luar, Gohar, Libraryfetish, Bode and others, as well as tasty treats from Happier Grocery (open through Jan 15).
